Zortrax to showcase Apoller vapor smoothing device at Formnext

Polish 3D printing company Zortrax will be presenting its latest products at Formnext 2018, including its newly launched Zortrax Apoller Smart Vapor Smoothing (SVS) device for desktop 3D printing. The device, which will be on display in Frankfurt from November 13 to 16, enables users to easily smooth the surface of FDM 3D prints, removing the layered texture caused by filament deposition.
The Apoller is the latest addition to Zotrax’s range of desktop 3D printing products, which also include its flagship M200 3D printer, the M300, the Inventure, a variety of filaments and more. The device, which is desktop friendly, uses vapor smoothing technology to smooth 3D printed parts.
The device itself is compatible with both acetone and butanone (MEK) and uses the solvents to smooth away ridges on polymer printed parts. The device is capable of achieving injection-molded levels of smoothness and can even give parts a glossy or matte finish (depending on the filament used).
The machine has an intuitive touch screen and is safe and easy to use (conforming toEuropean ATEX Workplace Directives for workplace safety). Further, Zortrax says the Apoller integrates a dual condensation process, which allows for a 300 ml bottle of solvent to be used for smoothing multiple parts instead of just one. “This efficiency means that the combined weekly output of four typical FDM 3D printers can be automatically smoothed within one day without loss of quality,” the company writes.
In terms of specifications, the Zortrax Apoller has a smoothing chamber measuring 300 x 250 x 250 mm, and is equipped with WiFi and Ethernet connectivity. The device is compatible with a range of materials, including Z-ABS, Z-ULTRAT, Z-ULTRAT Plus, Z-ASA Pro, Z-HIPS, as well as external ABS, ASA and HIPS filaments.
In addition to showcasing its new Apoller smoothing device at Formnext, Zortrax will also be displaying its other additive manufacturing products, including its recently released Inkspire resin desktop 3D printer, the Zortrax M300 Plus, the Zortrax HEPA Cover and its latest filaments.
