XYZprinting launches new da Vinci Color mini 3D printer for as low as $1K
XYZprinting's newest 3D printer offers accessible full-colour printing to professionals, consumers, educators

3D printer manufacturer XYZprinting is aiming to make colour 3D printing more accessible with its newly launched da Vinci Color mini 3D printer. The new 3D printer, being featured through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign, is available for as little as $999.95 to early backers and will ultimately retail for $1,600.
XYZprinting, perhaps best known for its range of da Vinci desktop 3D printers, has showed no signs of slowing its own innovation over the past couple of years. In late 2017, the company introduced a whole new range of 3D printers which included its first full-colour machine, the da Vinci Color, and the industrial-grade PartPro350 xBC binder jetting printer and the MfgPro230 xS SLS system.
The new da Vinci Color mini 3D printer, like its predecessor, is based on the company’s 3DColorJet technology, which combines inkjet printing and fused filament fabrication (FFF) processes to achieve full-colour printing. As the printer’s name implies, the new machine has a smaller footprint than XYZprinting’s original colour printer (weighing only 53 pounds), making it suitable for an office, classroom or home.
“Desktop full-colour 3D printing is here,” commented Simon Shen, CEO of XYZprinting. “Now, consumers can purchase an easy-to-operate, affordable, compact full-colour 3D printer for $30,000 less than market rate. This is revolutionary because we are giving the public access to technology that was once only available to industry professionals. We are proud to be the industry leader in desktop, full-colour 3D printing.”
Presently, XYZprinting is preparing to demonstrate the new da Vinci Color mini printer at the upcoming IFA 2018, held at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds from August 31 to September 5. There, visitors will be able to see firsthand the 3D printer’s ability to print millions of colours and its various features, which include auto-calibration, an EZ removable print bed, WiFi connectivity and a 5” colour LCD display screen.
Many of the features integrated into the new 3D printer were engineered with its end-users and accessibility in mind. For instance, XYZprinting promises a “hassle-free setup,” as well as a fully enclosed design and UL certification for safety. The company emphasizes that its printer is “designed for professionals, consumers and producers.”
Though applications for the new colour 3D printer are virtually limitless, XYZprinting offers a handful of examples for its new machine. On the professional end, the company says its low-cost printer could be used to produce animation or film models and prototypes, as well as by architects and designers who could use the full-colour capability to produce highly detailed miniature models. Elsewhere, the full-colour 3D printer could be integrated into the classroom or used by makers for a range of fun and practical uses.
