Wiivv and Dr. Scholl’s team up to offer custom 3D printed insoles

The partnership, announced at CES 2019, will bring personalized 3D printed foot care to the U.S. market

3D printed insole manufacturer Wiivv has announced an exciting partnership with popular foot care brand Dr. Scholl’s at CES 2019. Through the collaboration, Dr. Scholl’s is breaking into the 3D printed insole market by offering its clients custom insoles powered by Wiivv Fit Technology. Customers simply have to download a smartphone app to order their own customized, Dr. Scholl’s 3D printed insoles.

Probably the most trusted brand in foot care, Dr. Scholl’s has been around for over a century, offering consumers a wide range of footwear and foot care products. Now, for the first time, the global company is offering its clients custom foot care thanks to 3D printing insole technology pioneered by Wiivv, a Vancouver and San Diego-based company.

This new offering enables us to make inserts to the exact specifications of our customers‘ feet, with just the right support in just the right places,” commented Claudia F. Metcalf, U.S. Marketing Director of Dr. Scholl’s. “Using Wiivv Fit Technology, we are bringing a custom 3D experience to the reliable, comfortable inserts Dr. Scholl’s is known for. This is a breakthrough in premium personalization with the ability to shop from home.”

The new custom product line begins with the Dr. Scholl’s Custom 3D Inserts smartphone app which users can easily download. Consumers can then capture photos of their feet from different angles and watch the app generate an insole structure based on 400 mapping points from their feet. Before ordering the 3D printed insoles, customers can also personalize the products with different designs to suit their personal style.

The whole process was pioneered by Wiivv, which has been developing the technology for the past few years. The company has made waves in the 3D printed footwear industry (and the footwear industry on the whole) with its innovative platform, becoming the most funded 3D printed product on Kickstarter in 2017. Wiiv was also named as a runner up in the TechCrunch Hardware Battlefield competition at CES three years ago.

The 3D printed custom inserts offered by Dr. Scholl’s and Wiivv come in both three-quarter and full-length sizes and are now available to U.S. customers for $99 a pair. Once ordered, the bespoke inserts will promptly be 3D printed and are expected to be delivered within 14 days.
