UTN Buenos Aires Offers a Diploma in 3D Printing and 3D Design

3D design and 3D printing are expanding possibilities to think and materialize prototypes and advanced products, opening up new possibilities for innovative solutions. The 3D Design and Print Diploma from the Universidad Tecnologica National, Facultad de Buenos Aires (UTN BA) grants introductory knowledge and basic tools to develop creative processes that integrate three-dimensional design techniques and the materialization of these designs through additive manufacturing. The Diploma in 3D Design and Printing aims to study and put into practice the way in which technology can make a project more efficient. It seeks to provide a solid introductory training in the use of 3D printers, design of specific programs to print and create projects with a strong bias to sustainability and resource management.

The Diploma will be held in the course of 4 (four) months. During that time, the following contents will be addressed in 6 (six) modules: hardware, software, design, materials and services. These contents will be used by the students for the elaboration of a final integrative work that contemplates concepts of sustainable development, distributed fabrication and collaborative business models. In the four months, an introductory theoretical and practical knowledge is acquired in the mentioned areas of knowledge, which the student will internalize through the elaboration of an own integrating project. A final work will result from the digital manufacture of an object and the structured and documented writing of the project chosen by each student – and curated by the teachers – at the beginning of the course.

The Diploma course will begin on March 14 and will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Medrano 951, Cuidad Autónoma de Buenos Aires.


Provinding an introductory overview and encourage the development of skills, through an interactive and multidisciplinary approach, in the technologies included within the Digital Manufacturing realm.
Providing the tools to be able to interpret design needs of all types of physical components, able to move to models and prototypes that complement the innovation in products and production processes.
Developing the students’ creative abilities so that they can account for the highly dynamic needs of a constantly changing production.
Offering an integral view of the 3D printing process from the conceptualization of the object and its digital modeling, up until its manufacture.

Knowing the different types of 3D printers and operate an FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) technology 3D printer.
To propose alternative solutions of product designs with digital tools oriented to the processes and utilities of 3D Printing.
Knowing the physical-chemical, mechanical, thermal and process conditions of materials available for 3D printing.
Obtaining digital models from material objects by means of digitization techniques.
Optimizing the processes of additive manufacturing in all its phases.
Integrating quickly and efficiently in a teamwork environment related to digital manufacturing or product development in professional settings.
Managing digital manufacturing projects: the student will be involved in the design of objects and the realization of prototypes through 3DP technologies. To do this, you will be able to configure and manage 3D digital design and printing devices and tools in various systems and platforms, in order to maximize the performance of the instruments at your disposal. In turn, it will apply knowledge to interpret the needs of designers and experts in various machine tools, as well as to project and find solutions appropriate to applied problems of product design, parts and components.

6 modules distributed in 30 total classes of 4 hours each. Total: 120 hours. Weekly load: 8 hours

Young people and adults interested in technology related to mechanics, machine tools and processes of productive innovation. People with vocation to accompany innovative processes, with ingenuity to solve practical problems and applied to the production.
