Titomic and Vaaru auction off luxury 24k gold bike for Australian bushfire efforts

For months, Australia has been combatting some of the most intense bushfires in its history, which have caused unprecedented devastation to its land, wildlife and people. In recent weeks, media attention for the ongoing environmental disaster has picked up significantly, which has led to an outpouring of support from around the world. Wanting to play they part to help their country’s dire situation, Australian metal 3D printing company Titomic is working with British bike manufacturer Vaaru Cycles to raise money for the Victorian bushfire appeal.

Together, the companies have produced a luxury, 24k gold-plated titanium bicycle which is currently being showcased at the Dubai International Bicycle Exhibition. The bike—the most luxurious titanium bike ever made—will be auctioned off at the event with proceeds going to the bushfire cause (a reserve price of $25,000 has been established).

“Considering the enormity of this bushfire catastrophe gripping much of Australia and seen by the rest of the world, we wanted to contribute to the bushfire disaster appeal, and to help in the long road to recovery to the many people devastated by the fires,” said Titomic Managing Director Jeff Lang. “While we have placed a reserve price of $25,000, given the interest in the bike at the show we’re hopeful that the sale price will be much higher, as it’s the most luxurious titanium cycle ever produced.”

The bicycle is a Vaaru Octane 6-4 Disc road cycle with a 24k gold and pearl white finish. The impressive two-wheeler, made using Titomic Kinetic Fusion technology, required over 100 hours of expert craftsmanship to finish and integrates top-of-the-line components from Sram, Lightweight, Brooks and Vittoria.

“Titanium has a ride quality like no other material,” added Lang. “It’s light, strong but provides a silky ride with less vibration coming through the frame than other material. This results in less fatigue on the rider with very minimal weight penalties over carbon fibre. Titomic’s partnership with Vaaru and its founder James Beresford, will produce world’s most luxurious titanium cycles which incorporate artisanal design and the best high-performance materials.” 

James Beresford, Founder of Vaaru, said of the ongoing auction: “We have watched in horror in the UK as the enormity of this catastrophe has unfolded, so we’re more than happy to do our bit and contribute to this appeal. I’m certain, too, many of the people at the Dubai event will appreciate the seriousness of this bushfire crisis afflicting Australia and will respond accordingly when this unique bike is auctioned.”

The auction for the 3D printed luxury bicycle will end on January 11, and proceeds from the highest bid will be donated to the Australian Red Cross.
