Germany generated around €1 billion in AM-related revenues during 2019 according to the latest estimates from 3dpbm. These estimates are based on SmarTech Analysis’s latest report which sees the overall global AM industry (including AM hardware, materials, AM software and AM services) topping $10 billion in 2019. Let’s take a look at the top 20 global AM markets in 2019.
3dpbm is estimating that of these $10 billion, roughly 65% ($6.5 billion) is generated by the top 10 geographic areas for additive manufacturing, while roughly 20% (about $2 billion) is generated by the following 10 geographic areas. In total, these 20 markets are expected to represent almost 90% of all global AM-related revenues.
The results of this analysis show that Germany is the largest single geographic market, with almost $1.3 billion in yearly revenues, followed by the USA and China. Germany is solidly in first place as most of the companies producing industrial 3D printing hardware today are based in Germany as are many adopters and material manufacturers. However, the US is catching up with significant growth in polymer AM while China is growing especially through domestic AM production and adoption.
These top 3 markets all generate more than $1 billion per year in AM-related turnover. The top 10 markets also include large European manufacturing nations such as Italy, France and the UK with similar yearly turnovers of around half a billion per year. These three markets are significant adopters of AM technology. As these are estimates, the margin of error means that the exact positioning in this list could vary. Spain is also a major AM market-driven in particular by the Basque and Catalunya regions.
Scandinavia, Canada and Russia are markets driven by AM material production (and, interestingly, by bioprinting and construction technology as well). India is a rapidly growing adopter, while Japan is expected to also be a major adopter although information is not readily available. The Benelux region is a major adopter with some very relevant AM service providers originating here. Brazil is expected to be the largest AM market in South America, while Mexico is the largest AM market in Central America.
