Sculpteo becomes largest HP production center in France with purchase of third Multi Jet Fusion printer

French 3D printing service Sculpteo has announced it is now operating the largest HP production center in France since the recent acquisition of a new HP Multi Jet Fusion unit. The new addition is the third Multi Jet Fusion 3D printer to be installed at Sculpteo’s French factory.

Sculpteo says that by growing its fleet of HP 3D printers, it will be better equipped to meet customer demands in the age of Industry 4.0. In addition to HP’s 3D printing technology, Sculpteo also operates SLS, PolyJet, CLIP, ColorJet and various metal 3D printing processes.

HP Inc. made waves in the additive industry when it announced it was launching a new 3D printing technology in 2016. The process, known as Multi Jet Fusion Technology, uses a printhead to carefully deposit drops of a fusion agent onto a bed of polymer powder. The powder is then exposed to infrared light which fuses the powder and the fusion agent into a solid object. The process has become particularly notable for its high print speeds.

Another benefit of HP’s AM system is that it makes it easier to recycle unused powdered materials because the deposition process is less aggressive that other powder-based processes. To round off its printing technology, HP also offers a proprietary system for cooling printed parts and an automated recycling station for powders.

With these advantages in mind, Sculpteo is aiming to further leverage HP’s 3D printing technology for producing functional prototypes, small or medium series final parts and more. Currently, the Multi Jet Fusion printers are capable of printing parts in either grey or black using polyamide PA-12 (Nylon), though more materials are expected to be introduced in the near future.
