Through a collaborative effort, Italian 3D printing company Roboze and chemical company SABIC have brought to market a new high temperature 3D printing filament for Roboze’s ARGO production 3D printers. The material, EXTEM AMHH811F, is reportedly the filament with the highest heat resistance on the market today.
EXTEM AMHH811F is an amorphous thermoplastic polyimide (TPI) with a heat deflection temperature of up to 230°C. The semi-transparent material is also characterized by excellent flame retardant properties (even for thin walled 3D printed parts), good dimensional stability and easy processability. The filament is also RoHS compliant and halogen-free (following VDE/DIN 472 part 815).
Roboze and SABIC highlight another aspect of the new filament, which sets it apart from others on the market: it has a glass transition (Tg) temperature of 247°C, the highest of all printable filaments. This property, along with the material’s high performing ignition resistance, mechanical strength and chemical resistance, make it ideal for metal replacement or other extreme applications.
The new EXTEM AMHH811F filament is thus a versatile material which can be used in a number of industries, such as the motorsport, electronic, medical and aerospace sectors. Specific applications for the new material include 3D printing thermal and acoustic shields, enclosures for electronics and sensors and parts that require low outgassing or metallization.
Recently, the filament obtained a UL Blue Card certification (V0-075) for sample parts 3D printed on Roboze’s ARGO production machine with a thickness of 0.75 mm. Other sample parts will be debuted at Formnext this month at Roboze’s booth (121-C61).
“To enable customers to print high quality parts for a range of demanding high heat applications, SABIC and Roboze have worked closely together to optimize print parameters and secure UL recognition for EXTEM™ parts printed on ROBOZE solution,” said Keith Cox, SABIC’s senior business manager for Additive Manufacturing. “It’s been exciting to collaborate with Roboze to become the exclusive supplier of EXTEM™ AMHH811F filament for use on the ARGO platform…We hope that this is the first of many such exclusive collaborations with Roboze.”
“Having a partner like SABIC creates an important opportunity for our customers,” says Alessio Lorusso, Founder and CEO of Roboze. “We share values like innovation and constant investment in research, development, new materials and technologies. EXTEM™ AMHH811F filament is a first demonstration of this and gives the chance to explore new horizons with the high performing amorphous polymer on FFF systems.
“We’re proud of these great achievements and also of the growing trust we have received from SABIC. With Roboze ARGO Production 3D Printers and the new EXTEM™ AMHH811F filament, we can increase the opportunities for metal replacement. I’m definitely sure that all this will guarantee great advantages in terms of speed and productivity for the users.”
