PyroGenesis Canada has shipped its first commercial samples of plasma atomized titanium powder to a client in the aerospace industry (that will remain confidential for competitive reasons). These are the first samples shipped using PyroGenesis’ new cutting-edge Additive Manufacturing NexGen plasma atomization powder production line.

“This shipment represents the first of many expected shipments of PyroGenesis’ titanium powder,” added Mr. Massimo Dattilo, Vice President of PyroGenesis Additive. “We are now in a position to fulfill the backlog of demand for our powders and we anticipate that these shipments will lead to further qualification steps and/or commercial orders. While waiting for our cutting-edge NexGen powder production line to come on stream, we have developed solid relationships with many major players in the aerospace, biomedical, and automotive sectors. Separately, and as we have mentioned in the past, the NexGen powder production process has resonance beyond titanium alloys, and we are eager to begin addressing these markets as well.”

Pyrogenesis ships titanium powder from NexGen plasma atomization line Pyrogenesis’ new cutting edge Additive Manufacturing (AM) NexGen Powder production line, incorporating several previously announced improvements (increased production rate, lower CAPEX, lower OPEX, narrower particle size distribution) was completed ahead of schedule and began producing powders last April. PyroGenesis’ game-changing NexGen Plasma Atomization System, with its production rate exceeding 25kg/h, has shattered all published plasma-atomized production rates for titanium known to management.

“While incorporating the NexGen improvements, it became clear that there were opportunities for further refinements with respect to our downstream powder process,” said Mr. Massimo Dattilo, Vice President, PyroGenesis Additive. “In addition to the increased production rates and yields afforded by NexGen, the downstream changes that we have also incorporated into the process now allow for even further control over powder morphology, or more specifically, powder particle shape and distribution. This now provides AM printer manufacturers with opportunities to further optimize printer parameters for faster build speeds and/or stronger final parts”.

PyroGenesis’ new facility in Montreal, Quebec, Canada almost doubled its manufacturing footprint by leasing an additional 31,632 sq. ft and now houses $1 million in state-of-the-art plasma torch production equipment. “The Company recently invested approximately $1 million in state-of-the-art production equipment […]” said Mr. P. Peter Pascali, CEO and Chair of PyroGenesis. “This equipment has a wide range of capabilities and will significantly reduce the manufacturing time of our plasma torches. For example, parts that previously took 4 hours to manufacture will now take 15 minutes. PyroGenesis will produce parts faster and at lower cost, thereby reducing delivery times while increasing profitability.”
