Palari and SML to build 3D printed, net-zero energy community

Palari Group, a Beverly Hills-based technology-driven developer of sustainable master-planned communities, and SML (Sinarmas Land) Limited, the largest property developer in Indonesia, have entered into a strategic partnership in the US. SML, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, has acquired a 40% stake in jointly expanding Palari’s pipeline of sustainable single-family residences, including the world’s first 3D printed, net-zero energy community in Greater Palm Springs, California.

Palari currently has three master-planned communities in development –  including its 3D printed, net-zero energy community, with a total of 200 homesites. Palari Villas are built using a modular construction methodology which includes the use of 3D printing technology – reducing waste and CO2 emissions without compromising the quality of the builds.

SML Group is an international property developer with operations in multiple countries, and now, the US too. “As a sustainable leader, SML has always focused on leveraging innovative and sustainable solutions within its development and continues to seek out like-minded partners to further this endeavor. This partnership marks a big step towards a more sustainable future, harnessing modern construction methods to reduce our carbon footprint,” said Michael Widjaja, Group CEO of Indonesia’s Sinar Mas Land.

Traditional construction methods are slow, expensive, and have not evolved in centuries. In addition to this, there are labor shortages and increasing material costs. These have all contributed to the current housing deficit in the US. As it stands, the construction industry is one of the largest waste-producing industries, globally. Although sustainability is and has been a top concern of many industries for some time now, ‘green’ homes have still not fully come to fruition. 3D construction printing offers the opportunity for this to change.
