Next 3dpbm webinar to explore eyewear 3D printing market and workflow

Key stakeholders in eyewear AM will discuss the drive toward mass customization

In the next AM Focus webinar series, 3dpbm is presenting an in-depth analysis of additive manufacturing opportunities in the eyewear industry. Leveraging the findings from the latest report on additive manufacturing in the eyewear segment, published by 3dpbm’s partner for industry data SmarTech Publishing, key industry stakeholders and technology leaders will provide unique insights on this key market for AM adoption and growth.

The webinar will see the exclusive participation of Alireza Parandian, Global Head of Wearables at segment leader Materialise, who will identify production methods and key eyewear applications that could drive the segment to grow into an overall $3.4 billion opportunity over the next ten years driven by the demand of 3D printed end-use parts and applications.

To provide a more complete view of the eyewear AM workflow (eyewear frames design, eyewear frames manufacturing and lenses manufacturing) the panel also includes Bieke Hoet, Owner of Hoet Design Studio, one of the very first and most advanced eyewear design studios implementing AM for frames production (and the only company to produce titanium 3D printed frames). Finally, to complete all aspectes of glasses manufacturing, we will also hear about opportunities for 3D printed lenses from  Guido Groet, Chief Commercial Officer, Luxexcel, the company that developed a unique technology for 3D printing of ophthalmic lenses.

“Eyeing” new markets

For the first time, 3dpbm is going to explore a consumer application market – the eyewear segment – in its series of AM Focus webinars. The AM Focus are special editorial sections through which we explore a specific AM adoption segment. We do this with several editorials and other content, including webinars where we analyze the market with participation from industry leaders.

The webinar will take place next Tuesday, March 19th, at 3pm GMT (4pm CET / 10 am EST). It is free to join and all registrants who will not be able to attend the live session will receive a full recording of the discussion and data shared during the presentation.

What to “look” for

In a timespan of around five years, 3D printed eyewear has become an exciting niche market with significant potential in the medium and long term. Additive manufacturing specialists are carrying out projects for eyewear companies, while many eyewear companies are setting up their own in-house AM technologies.

3D printed eyewear also provides an opportunity for businesses to serve the end user directly, providing products that can be customized to a customer’s preferences. 3D capture and 3D scanning devices have opened up huge opportunities in this area.

During this webinar, we will take a look at the primary business opportunities emerging from the additive production of eyewear products. We will analyze available technologies and applications as eyewear emerges as one of the first consumer product segment ready to embrace AM industrialization. Key items for discussion will include:

  • Which are the most relevant applications for AM in the eyewear segment between prototyping, tooling/casting and final part production?
  • Is AM an ideal method to explore new eyewear frame designs or is it better suited for mass personalization through 3D data capturing technology?
  • Which are the best materials for additively manufactured eyewear frames (and lenses)?

Finally, we will present an exclusive preview of the findings and forecasts from SmarTech Publishing’s newest report on Eyewear 3D Printing Opportunities. We also will hear from leading global experts at Materialise who will identify and illustrate key applications and technologies.
