FILOALFA, a leading Italian filament manufacturer, has once again expanded its range of 3D printing materials with the release of THERMEC ZED. The new filament, which is said to have excellent layer adhesion and superior mechanical properties, was developed in collaboration with DOMO Engineering Plastics and Ciceri de Mondel.
In the current FFF 3D printing climate, the onus of improving and diversifying the technology’s applications is left largely to the materials market. FILOALFA, an Italian filament producer founded in 2014, is one of the companies hoping to advance and broaden the scope of 3D printing filaments and extrusion-based AM.
The last time we heard from FILOALFA, the company was releasing its ALFA+ filament, a material that boasts better heat resistance and tensile strength than ABS as well as the easy processing properties typical of PLA.
Now, the company is bringing to market its latest achievement: THERMEC ZED. The new 3D printing filament offers excellent layer adhesion properties, which translates to a reduced chance of delamination and minimal part shrinkage. The flexible filament can also be easily processed by 3D printers, which ensures fast printing speeds and good mechanical properties.
Further, THERMEC ZED’s chemical resistance makes it suitable for a range of functional applications. FILOALFA says that objects printed from the material are resistant to any known solvents (below 200°C) and are “inherently flame-retardant.”

The functional filament was developed through a close collaboration between DOMO Engineering Plastics, an Italy-based plastics development company, and plastics specialist Ciceri de Mondel, the parent company of FILOALFA.
DOMO Engineering Plastics, a division of the DOMO Chemicals Group, has developed high-performance technopolymers for the automotive, electronics, consumer goods and other industrial markets. This experience, along with an affinity for working with PA6 and PA6.6-based polymers, has made DOMO Engineering Plastics a vital partner in the realization of 3D printing materials such as THERMEC ZED.
