Canadian 3D printer manufacturer Mosaic Manufacturing has launched its latest product: the Palette 2 3D printer accessory. Alongside its CANVAS Software Platform and CANVAS Hub, Mosaic’s new product creates a user-friendly and accessible multi-material 3D printing ecosystem which can give nearly any FDM printer multi-material capabilities. The new product range is available for pre-order on Mosaic’s website for $499.
Multi-material printing is quickly becoming the norm for desktop and FDM manufacturing, as makers are increasingly leveraging the benefits of being able to print multi-color parts, parts with varying hardnesses and, perhaps most notably, dissolvable supports. Thankfully, for those who invested in single-extruder machines, it is still possible to modify your printer to support multi-materials.
The Palette 2
According to Mosaic Manufacturing, its CANVAS platform is the industry’s first multi-material 3D printing-focused software which is geared to beginner, non-technical users, while its new Palette 2 hardware product is capable of integrating with nearly all filament-based 3D printers currently on the market. The device can be integrated by users onto their existing 3D printers, or manufacturers have the option of installing it directly into a printer.
“Palette 2’s integration model is similar to the Intel Inside approach in personal computing,” explained Mosaic Co-Founder and CEO Mitchell Debora. “In the same way that Intel’s processors made computers powerful enough to be useful for ordinary people, Palette 2 makes the output of 3D printers substantially more valuable and relevant to a larger market.”
In combination with its product launch, Mosaic has also announced that a number of companies, including MakerGear, Raise3D, Dremel, Robo 3D, gCreate and MAKEiT, have joined as Palette 2 and Palette 2 Pro integration partners. This means that they will launch 3D printers with built-in Palette 2 modules, providing user-friendly multi-material capabilities to their clients.
The sleek looking Palette 2 device builds on and adds to Mosaic’s previous Palette and Palette+ products by delivering better performance, reliability and ease-of-use. The new product also includes a new and improved color touch screen, auto-runout sensors and a next-gen version of Mosaic’s solid-state filament splicing technology. These features enable all levels of makers to exploit multi-material printing.
Mosaic’s new software platform, CANVAS, is a cloud software program developed specifically for multi-material printing, making it easier for users to create and prepare a multi-material, multi-color print.
“The CANVAS platform features the industry’s best user experience for multi-material printing, version control for print settings, and data-driven setting optimizations, and it will soon enable users to ‘paint’ and colorize 3D printable files in a simple, intuitive way,” said Co-Founder and COO Chris Labelle. “We’re excited for Palette 2 and CANVAS to elevate the industry and become the standard in quality 3D printing.”
Mosaic’s new Palette 2 product is currently available for pre-order, and mass production of the product is reportedly already underway. The first batch, says the company, is expected to ship by the end of September.
