MINI releases limited Cooper S GT Edition with 3D printed accents
The limited edition car pays homage to the original MINI 1275 GT, in production from 1969 to 1980

For decades, Britain automotive brand MINI has kept its vehicles stylish, timeless and, of course, mini. But the continued popularity isn’t by mere chance, as MINI has diligently stayed the course, knowing what its customers want and delivering on those wants. The latest car model to be introduced by MINI is the Cooper S GT Edition. The limited edition car has just been launched in France.
The sleek and compact car is an homage to the original MINI 1275 GT, which was in production between 1969 and 1980 and which, at the time, was known as a more suped-up version of the standard S model. This, as car enthusiasts will recognize, was because the MINI 1275 GT was equipped with a larger engine than the traditional models.
Notably, the original 1275 GT was popular amongst MINI customers and, as BMW puts it: it “helped build the sporty image the winged logo enjoys today, starting with the 1970s.”
Turning to the new release, the Cooper S GT Edition is being released by BMW in a very limited run of just 150 units. The sporty car is notable for its dark palette—the exterior is Midnight Black with red and grey GT accents.
“The sides get grey and red stripes while the same motif is applied to the hatch,” BMW elaborates on its blog. “Red side mirror covers are joined by a similarly painted roof while the front end receives extra headlamps, in typical MINI Rally style. You might also notice that even though this is a Cooper S model underneath, it sports the JCW kit on the outside.”
Why is a 3D printing website talking about a limited edition MINI Cooper, you might be wondering. Well, I’m getting there. In line with its new customization features, MINI has included a series of GT elements to the car’s interior, including the side sills and passenger side dash trims which are 3D printed.
The inclusion of these 3D printed elements is aimed at promoting BMW’s recently launched online customizer tool which lets clients choose various 3D printed accents to make their MINI their own.
Other features of the new Cooper S GT Edition include 18” JCW wheels, dual-zone climate control and full LED headlamps. The special edition car is currently only available in France and is priced starting at €35,900 (about $41,280).
Earlier this year, MINI got into the festive spirit and unveiled a one-of-a-kind MINI Hatch customized for the Royal Wedding. The unique model was donated to The Children’s HIV Association (CHIVA) and fetched £28,750 at auction.
