Chemical company LEHVOSS has introduced a new high-temperature polyamide (PA) 3D printing material with flame-retardant properties. The material, LUVOCOM 3F PAHT KK 50056 BK FR, is a high-temperature filament with excellent thermal stability and printability.
The new polyamide filament owes its high degree of thermal stability to the inclusion of ceramic fillers, which have been added to improve the aforementioned property without affecting the material’s printability. Otherwise, the material has similar mechanical properties to PA6, but has lower water absorption and higher temperature resistance.
One of the filament’s most notable characteristics it that it is flame-retardant. LUVOCOM 3F PAHT KK 50056 BK FR has a halogen-free flame-retardant package, and the company says that 3D printed parts with thicknesses of at least 0.4 mm can achieve UL-94 V0, the standard for Safety of Flammability of Plastic Materials for Parts in Devices and Appliances. This standard was achieved using the filament with an Ultimaker S5 system and CC 0.6 print core.
With the release of the new 3D printing material, LEHVOSS says there are already printing profiles available on the CURA marketplace for the Ultimaker S5, and profiles for the Ultimaker S3 are in development. The flame-retardant filament is also compatible with other FFF systems. In general, no heated print chamber is required to print the filament, and it can be used in combination with HIPS and PVOH support materials. In terms of applications, the flame-retardant polyamide is suitable for the electrical and electronic market thanks to its electrical insulation properties, as well as other applications where flame retardancy is critical.
The filament is part of the LUVOCOM 3F PAHT family of materials. In the past several months, the market for flame-retardant filaments has grown substantially: Markforged introduced a Onyx FR, a fireproof composite material; Makerbot launched the UL-94 V0-compliant PC-ABS FR filament; and DSM released Novamid AM1030 FR late last year.
