Leeds General Infirmary NHS Trust sign 3D medical modelling service contract with 3D LifePrints

Starting in May 2020, 3D LifePrints is providing a remote 3D modeling service for the Leeds General Infirmary NHS Paediatric cardiology team. This service will enable the team to visualize 3D rendered patient anatomy, derived from CT and MRI imaging for complex cases, and 3D print selected models on site.

Vitor Ramos, Cardiology Consultant in Congenital Heart Disease, who is spearheading the initiative on behalf of the Leeds Paediatric Cardiology and ACHD team, commented: “3D printing has a marvelous ability to improve clinical discussion within a large multidisciplinary team with different skill sets. This directly benefits patient care and enhances medical education in congenital heart disease. We are very excited with our recent partnership with 3D LifePrints experienced team that is helping us to level up our performance.”

3D LifePrints set up a custom online platform to facilitate this service which allows the Leeds team to securely upload patient imaging, add cases notes and modeling preferences and track the case progress. The platform also allows doctors to preview the 3D models, view 3D PDFs and medical device certificates and finally download the models for 3D printing.

“We are really pleased with this new partnership with a tech-savvy team of Cardiologists at the Leeds General Infirmary,” said Michael Richard, Head of Engineering for 3D LifePrints. “The clinicians already have experience utilizing digital reconstructions and 3D printed models, and see the value they add to team discussions and presurgical assessment and planning. Using Simpleware’s advanced medical modeling software, we are able to provide a rapid and detailed service”

3D LifePrints are already well represented in the North of England with embedded medical 3D Printing Hubs in Liverpool and Greater Manchester and are hoping to work more in the Leeds and Yorkshire area over the coming years.
