Kuunda3D to distribute Copper3D antibacterial 3D printing filaments in African markets

Kuunda3D has been selected as the newly appointed distributor for Copper3D‘s antibaterial filament portfolio on African markets. Through their partner network and carefully established African network, Kuunda3D expects to make Copper3D products more accessible to more customers and more countries than ever before.
“When I first learned about the Copper3D filament I was immediately excited about the applications in the African context,” said Elizabeth Rogers, Co-Founder and MD of Kuunda 3D. “My partner and I both had goosebumps! We are thrilled to add Copper3D antimicrobial filaments to our product offering and see what our customers create with it. Across Africa our customers print prosthetics, wheelchair parts, medical tools and more, and we envision many more applications in the healthcare industry. Saving lives and preventing diseases is now easier than ever, welcome to the future of Biomedical 3D printing!”
Copper3D is a Chilean/US-based company that is “hacking” the materials used in 3D printing by adding a patented and effective additive based on copper nanoparticles, among other carrier and enhancer elements, to transform these materials into fully antimicrobial nano-composites.
“For us it is always an honor to have premium partners such as Kuunda 3D that represent our brand and distribute our products in very interesting markets such as Africa,” said Daniel Martínez, Co-Founder and CINO of Copper3D. “We believe that this new alliance will give us a greater market reach of our innovative antimicrobial nanomaterials. It is surely the beginning of a new revolution in Biomedical 3D printing and the establishment of a new standard in the industry”.
According to some studies, about 50% of all hospital-acquired infections (HAI) worldwide are due to the bacterial contamination of medical devices that are difficult to maintain clean and sterilized. Copper3D’s 3D printing solution for antibacterial medical devices has enormous potential for this entire industry, and even for other industries.
Copper3D’s first product is a high-quality PLA polymer with a nano-copper additive concentration of 1%. PLACTIVETM is a PLA polymer with “active” properties in the elimination of a wide range of microorganisms. Copper3D is also close to introduce a medical-grade material called NANOCLEAN MD1: a high quality PETG antibacterial polymer aimed at more specific purposes in the world of medical devices. Also up next is a TPU flexible material, with full antibacterial properties, called MDflex. These materials have been tested and validated as fully antibacterial by the Microbiology Laboratory SITU Biosciences (USA).
PLACTIVETM was also clinically tested in 3D printed prosthetics for US war veterans, study published in the Journal of Applied Sciences, and is currently being tested by NASA for 3D printed space applications in long term space missions.
Copper3D’s PLACTIVE and the other materials of the portfolio will be available in the Kuunda3D website from October 7th, 2019.
