Jumbo Group, a UAE-based electronics company, announced today it is launching a new additive manufacturing division, Jumbo 3D Manufacturing. In parallel with the new unit, the company has also opened what it called the first 3D printing facility in the Jebel Ali Industrial Area. The new 3D print farm is reportedly equipped with HP 3D printing technologies and will be producing products for the dental and architecture industries, among others.
The UAE is quickly rising as a strong player in the additive landscape. Though the small Middle Eastern country has not necessarily put forward influential AM hardware systems, it has been a huge proponent for the adoption of the technology across a range of sectors (most notably the construction and medical fields). Readers will doubtlessly remember the much hyped 3D printed office building unveiled in Dubai in 2016.
Now, Jumbo Group, known primarily as a distributor of consumer electronics, is entering the ring with its state-of-the-art additive manufacturing facility and dedicated 3D printing unit. The company says its 3D printing efforts are aimed at facilitating the adoption of 3D printing amongst businesses and entrepreneurs in the UAE who may not have access to the technology because of lack of funds or expertise.
Though it is not clear how many HP 3D printing systems have or are being installed at Jumbo’s 3D print farm (or whether other 3D printing systems will be integrated as well), we do know that the facility also houses post-processing equipment for finishing and painting printed products. The company has also hinted it will be expanding its additive manufacturing equipment with colour, metal and concrete printing systems.
“Jumbo’s 3D Farm will not only serve as a proof of concept for early adopters but will also act as an initiative to develop a community of collaborating professionals involved in 3D manufacturing in the UAE,” commented Arvind Agrawal, head of Jumbo Group. “We will shortly announce partnerships with several 3D printing bureaus who will be joining this community. The objective is to pool the knowledge, design capability, skills and resources to create an eco-system for faster adoption of 3D printing technology in the country.”
To best support its partners across the UAE, Jumbo will also offer a range of 3D printing-related services, including training, business consulting for startups and young entrepreneurs, proof of concept development, product design assistance and financing options.
