San Francisco-based digital manufacturing company Fictiv has signed an agreement with global manufacturing company Jabil Inc. through which Jabil will join its worldwide manufacturing network. The collaboration will aim to streamline prototyping and mass-scale production using 3D printing through a state-of-the-art digital thread specifically designed to de-risk the supply chain through quality, speed, transparency and agility.
The partnership will essentially link up Fictiv’s production capacity tailored to prototyping and low-volume production with Jabil’s mass-production AM services. This digital thread will facilitate customers’ transition from prototyping to mass production, resulting in an accelerated time-to-market and greater cost savings.
“We know from years of manufacturing experience that the move from idea to volume consumption is hard – no matter how solid the products are. Our goal is to add speed and agility to the manufacturing supply chain to enable new product introduction without the risk,” said Jean Olivieri, Fictiv COO. “Our digitally enabled ecosystem facilitates efficient flow of data and materials, while our collaboration with Jabil supports end-to-end product lifecycle; prototyping to production, for the benefit of our mutual customers.”
Fictiv and Jabil’s alliance is mutually beneficial: customers from the Fictiv Global Manufacturing Ecosystem will now have access to Jabil’s global 3D printing capabilities, while Jabil can now leverage Fictiv’s precision service model to offer volume manufacturing, data, packaging and on-time fulfillment to customers with less risk.
“Accuracy, speed and agility are vital to success in volume manufacturing,” explained John Dulchinos, Vice President of Digital Manufacturing at Jabil. “Fictiv’s commitment to data accuracy, combined with Jabil’s investment in lean manufacturing, reduction in business systems and overarching digital infrastructure, enable fast, nimble production ramps.”
Ultimately, by becoming part of the same global manufacturing network, Jabil and Fictiv will provide a more stable supply chain to customers. The cloud-based digital thread will also help to improve the network through sophisticated data sharing with the manufacturing network.
