CIA investment firm In-Q-Tel backs nTopology

Engineering software developer nTopology has entered into a partnership with In-Q-Tel, Inc. (IQT), a non-profit strategic investor that identifies and supports cutting-edge technologies that could be used by the CIA and other U.S. government intelligence and national security agencies. In-Q-Tel’s investment in nTopology follows another recent investment in a 3D printing company, Markforged.

Nicky Soane, nTopology Solutions Architect, said of the partnership: “The investment from IQT validates the powerful capabilities of nTop Platform, nTopology’s design-engineering software suite. We are excited to join In-Q-Tel’s portfolio of companies and work together on digital design and advanced manufacturing technologies with their partners.”

nTopology’s software, nTop Platform, is a comprehensive engineering workflow solution that enables high-performance design, rapid iterations and highly complex geometries. The software was launched a year ago and is a leading tool for generative design and customizable workflows. Specifically, it gives engineers the tools to design optimized lightweight parts using lattices, gyroid infills and topology optimization. nTop Platform is also highly integrated and can be fit into existing workflows with CAD or mesh data and built-in simulation. One of the technology’s key goals is to boost the automation of the AM design and prep process.

Steve Taub, partner for investments at In-Q-Tel, said of its investment in nTopology: “We are thrilled to be working with nTopology and are excited about the potential their technology can bring to our government partners as they continue to unlock the power of additive manufacturing.”

Recently, nTopology announced an MoU with Yamaichi Special Steel (YSS) with the aim of promoting nTopology’s new generation nTop Platform in Japan.
