Höganäs Installs Its First External P2000 Metal Binder Jetting 3D Printer at CETIM

Höganäs installed its first 3D printer last week for CETIM, a French industrial institute. The printer, one of the very first that the company has installed outside its own premises – arrived on Monday and first printing trials were conducted on Wednesday the same week, reports Niclas Malm who is responsible for service and support regarding Höganäs Digital Metal technology.

The Technical Centre for Mechanical Industry was created in 1965, upon request from mechanical industry companies in order to provide companies with means and competences to improve their competitiveness, take part in standardization, establish a relationship between scientific research and industry, promote technical progress, provide assistance to improve performance and guarantee quality.  Today, these objectives materialize into different missions of anticipation, innovation, distribution and service.

The new covered printer, a Digital Metal P2000, was photographed before it was wrapped in plastics and transported to CETIM in in St Etienne, France, last week. A dedicated truck was fully loaded with printer and auxiliary printing equipment before it left for the journey to France.

The printer sits on a common platform facilitating transportation and installation. The cover reduce noise level dramatically and the required safety footprint is smaller compared to the open printer concept. Digital Metal’s technology is especially relevant in the industrial arena, where the design freedom provided by 3D metal printing makes it possible to quickly and cost effectively produce e.g. hollowed and meshed metal components with undercuts, ducts, cavities and internal structures.

– It is also equipped with an upgraded build box, upgraded ink supply system as well as an upgraded powder handling system, says Hans Kimblad, who is responsible for technical development at Digital Metal Höganäs.

The installation continues during this week with training of CETIM dedicated personnel. The printer was delivered to CETIM as a part of a license agreement. CETIM is a French Industrial institute and very active in promoting new technology to its member companies.
