Gardening additive manufacturing to top 5 billion by 2025*

Stay up to date with everything that is happening in the wonderful world of AM via our LinkedIn community.

*In the unlikely circumstance that you have not already realized it by the article’s far-out title or by looking at the article’s date, this story is an April Fools day prank. This year we decided to keep it as harmless as possible, by poking fun at our own activities as a market research firm.

Mainly as a result of the effects of global warming in the Northern Hemisphere and Polar Regions, the market for gardening additive manufacturing, and more generally for additive manufacturing of gardening products, is now expected to reach $5 billion yearly by 2025, just three years from now. These are the findings of the latest 3dpbm Research report, titled “Gardening Additive Manufacturing, the next major opportunity”, that was released today, April 1st, on the official start of 3D Printing Media Network’s AM Focus Gardening.

Today, additively manufactured gardening products and gardening-specific 3D printing hardware and materials generate only about $500,000 in sales yearly so this would reflect an impressive overall 1,000,000% growth for the forecast period at an equally impressive 24900% CAGR. If you don’t believe us, just look at the chart below.

Gardening is thus expected to become one of the major areas for 3D printing adoption, by combining technologies and processes that range from large format concrete 3D construction printing to large format polymer 3D printing (using recycled or biodegradable materials) to on-demand manufacturing of garden decorations, including even geometrically complex 3D printed flowers and plants.

Custom, on-demand, parametrically designed, weight-optimized pottery is expected to be the single primary application opportunity, generating nearly $1 billion yearly by 2025 (the global pottery market is worth over $100 billion).

Mass customization of gardens is also expected to be a very important factor driving the adoption of 3D printing in gardening activities. In fact, gardens are already among the most customizable elements within any construction or habitation product.

Based on data collected from a survey of over 1,000 companies currently active in gardening additive manufacturing, 3dpbm Research has produced a 500-page document with hundreds of forecasts and analyses of the gardening 3D printing market.

Key content and insights include gardening AM hardware (extrusion, LFAM extrusion, robotic extrusion, concrete extrusion and binder jetting), gardening AM materials (concrete, polymers, biopolymers and metals), gardening AM services and gardening AM applications. Reach out to to learn more about this new report that was released – we want to really stress this point – on April 1st.
