Many people from all around the world are reaching out to volunteer their 3D printers and use them to print parts that could help to save lives. However, most of these offers are spread across different entities or Facebook groups’ posts and comments, which results in an inability for people who really need it to get organized access to these services. 3DPrinterOS’s new COVID-19 map could change that.

The firm’s software engineers have spent several nights coding the COVID-19 live map. It is meant to help keep 3D printing volunteering organized: 3D printer owners can list their 3D printers, while people, hospitals and organizations can more easily find 3D printing facilities in close proximity (by country, city and street).

In order to register as a volunteer, non-registered users first need to sign up to the free platform, one of the most widely adopted by Universities and firms to network their printers. They can do so by going to the Printers tab and clicking the “add new printer” button.

Select the make and model or type in the printer’s make and model manually. At this point, set a location on a map for each 3D printer in the Machine settings, so people can easily find it on the map. It is important now to confirm the volunteering by going to a live map tab COVID-19 or a direct link and clicking the “BECOME A VOLUNTEER” button.

Hi, I have access to about a dozen printers (mine and school’s) that aren’t being used. Can I register them without downloading the 3Dprinter OS software? I added them but can’t add their location without installing and “setting up”; I’d be printing on them manually anyway. They are Flashforge Finders, Creator Pros, and Prusa I3s in Southfield, Michigan. Thanks.
