Formula 1 launches 3D printed F1 Fragrance collection with designer Ross Lovegrove

Collector bottles 3D printed in metal, mass produced versions using Carbon technology

F1 – yes the same Formula 1 circuit where state of the art vehicles race at 300+ Km/h – is launching an official new F1 Fragrance brand using 3D printed bottles. Inspired by Formula 1, arguably the pinnacle of motorsports, the collection was created by Designer Parfums and designed by Ross Lovegrove to convey the excitement, passion, technology and dynamism of Formula 1. The products will go on sale next year.

That the packaging industry – including perfume bottle prototyping – is a major adopter of 3D printing is well known. It is also well known that Formula 1 is a major first adopter of 3D printing for production parts, with dozens of application cases that have now been made public. Ross Lovegrove is also a great fan of 3D printing, having proposed a unique 3D printed stool at Milan Design Week in 2018. Now all these 3D printing adopters have come together in this fascinating and unique product.

“We are extremely excited to be working with Designer Parfums to unveil our new fragrance collection,” said Ellie Norman, Director of Marketing & Communications, Formula 1. “The unique fragrances and bespoke F1 inspired bottles embody the dynamic qualities of the sport, and are planning to launch the full collection early next year”.

The advanced engineering of Formula 1, organic lines and principles of form, provided a richness of references for Ross Lovegrove, who designed the three 3D printed works of art to mark the launch of the collection. In this case 3D printing was considered to be the obvious and only route to emulate and embody the spirit of F1.

“We are leveraging the sport’s heritage and principles to build a unique fragrance brand that merges
a highly legitimate approach to the perfume world with the core values of Formula 1. Being the first fragrance brand to utilize 3D printing is a huge achievement, and we look forward to pushing this even further in future years when we will offer consumers the ability to create their own customized designs,” said Dilesh Mehta, Designer Parfums Chairman & CEO.

Priced up to $10,000, these limited edition works of art, with the collection of five interchangeable fragrances will are available only at the FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX 2019 (29th November – 1st December 2019) and then limited to 100 pieces that will be released over the course of 2020.

In fact, this is just the beginning for 3D printing and Designer Parfums: mass production is next: From April 2020, these fragrances will start reaching retailers globally. This time designer Ross Lovegrove will use the digital light synthesis 3D printing technology from Carbon, creating an intricate and stunning technopolymer resin-based exoskeleton to house the fragrance bottle. These will be available starting at $250 RRP available at select retail.
