Formnext + PM South China postponed, once again – to 2023
In light of local prevention measures which are due to an upswing of Covid cases

Once again, in view of local prevention measures in place to address an upswing in Covid cases in China, the Formnext + PM South China organizers have decided to defer the fair. Originally scheduled to open on 20 December 2022, the fair will take place in autumn 2023, at the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center. The exact dates will be announced in due course.
The event is the latest to be affected by the ineffectiveness of China’s “zero covid” policy in countering the effects of the pandemic. While it brought early results, the decision by the central government to continue isolating people rather than investing in a heavier and more effective vaccination campaign is resulting in China coming under heavy local and global scrutiny – with people in Beijing and Shanghai taking to the streets to protest this policy, and many calling for Xi Jinping to step down – a very rare event in China, considering the government’s historically harsh response to criticism.
A primary reason for rescheduling the fair to 2023, according to the organizers, was the well-being of participants traveling to Formnext + PM South China, given the pandemic’s status evolving across the country – remaining focused on creating a favorable environment for in-person business encounters that stimulate the trade and sustainable development of the additive manufacturing, powder metallurgy, and advanced ceramics sectors in South China. With key stakeholders and exhibitors voicing their support of the postponement, the organizers are now turning their attention towards confirming a new timeslot in 2023.
Formnext + PM South China is a leading event for manufacturing in China, covering advanced technology and equipment categories, including additive manufacturing, powder metallurgy, and advanced ceramics-related materials, designs, software, and processing technologies. Jointly organized by Guangzhou Guangya Messe Frankfurt and Uniris Exhibition Shanghai Co Ltd, the 2021 fair attracted 199 renowned brands showcasing their latest products and solutions, and 9,330 visitors. Additionally, a series of concurrent events were held with industry experts present to exchange ideas and introduce new technologies.
Formnext + PM South China forms a part of a series of international events which includes: Asiamold (1 – 3 March 2023, in Guangzhou, China), Formnext Forum Tokyo (28 – 29 September 2023, in Tokyo, Japan), and
