Fast Radius announces new HQ and additive manufacturing facility in Chicago

Manufacturing tech company Fast Radius has just announced the opening of a new headquarters in Chicago’s West Loop neighbourhood. The new HQ location, which will enable the company to ramp up its manufacturing capacity and advance its software development and sales, reportedly houses one of the most advanced additive manufacturing facilities in North America as well as the largest Carbon production facility in the Western Hemisphere.

The impressive new location for Fast Radius operations will extend the company’s reach within the U.S., where it already has an office in Atlanta, GA and a production hub at UPS’ Worldport facility in Louisville, KY. Globally, the company also has a presence in the South East Asian market through offices in Singapore.

As a company, Fast Radius works with clients across various industries to help them leverage and exploit additive manufacturing technologies. The company’s aim is to assist its clients in unlocking the technology’s production potential for product development. To enable this, Fast Radius offers a technology platform which identifies application for 3D printing (beyond prototyping), helps conduct engineering and economic evaluations and promotes the production of industrial-grade parts using AM.

“Manufacturing and logistics are in the midst of a fundamental platform shift to the cloud,” commented Nick Solaro, Partner, Drive Capital. “The ability to transport parts across the globe—digitally—will transform manufacturing and commerce as we know it. So will the ability to create new, innovative product designs through additive. We believe that the Fast Radius technology platform clearly represents the next generation of manufacturing and logistics infrastructure that will bring these opportunities to life.”

The company has worked closely with UPS—which has invested in the AM company—as it says its partnership with the logistics firm has created “new supply chain solutions” for its clients. Fast Radius is also backed by Drive Capital, Jump Capital, Skydeck Ventures and Hyde Park Venture Partners. So far, the company has raised over $17 million in venture funding.

The decision to base Fast Radius’ new HQ in Chicago was anything but coincidence, as many of the company’s leaders, including CEO Lou Rassey worked together to establish the Chicago-based Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute (DMDII). Members of Fast Radius who participated in the DMDII project included Chief Scientist Bill King, Chief Product Officer John Nanry and Enterprise Solutions Leader John Ramirez. Fast Radius is now also led by COO Pat McCusker and Vice President of Sales and Marketing Brian Simms.

“It was important to the Fast Radius team that we were headquartered in Chicago, as we are passionate about being a part of the next great industrial manufacturing renaissance in this city, the Midwest, and ultimately, the world,” explained Rassey. “Pat, John, Bill, John and Brian form the perfect core team to grow Fast Radius as we build out our technology platform and global footprint to bring manufacturing innovation to the world at scale.”

Presently, the company is looking to partner with companies seeking to integrate additive manufacturing into their production.
