Industrial AM company ExOne is deepening its materials partnership with Sandvik Additive Manufacturing to advance its binder jetting technology. The news follows ExOne’s recent launch of a new material partnership program.
With over 150 years experience in the metals industry, Sandvik’s influence within the metal AM sector is unsurprising. By working together, ExOne and Sandvik will leverage with respective expertises in binder jetting and metal powders with the goal of developing a state-of-the-art AM metal binder solution with broad industrial applications.
The partnership will primarily focus on qualifying and optimizing Sandvik’s Osprey metal powders for ExOne’s binder jetting systems. This process will include studying the powder and binder interactions, developing and optimizing the 3D printer process settings and creating post-processing heat treatments for a range of metals, including stainless steels, tool steels and nickel alloys.

Sweden-based Sandvik operates multiple ExOne binder jetting systems at its facilities, including the new X1 25PRO production machine for metals and ceramics. (Sandvik is a beta customer for the new 3D printer, which was introduced in December 2018.)

Materials partnership program
The broader materials partnership program, launched yesterday by ExOne, is focused on the development of process settings and powder optimization for the company’s metal AM systems. ExOne plans to work with partners in the materials sector to create new materials and improve process optimization for its binder jetting technology.
