EPlus3D and Voxeldance develop pre-processing software for dental AM

As the demand for 3D printing gradually increases in the dental segment, the requirements for 3D printing are also getting higher. Facing these new market challenges, Eplus3D worked together with Voxeldance and developed a series of 3D printing pre-processing software tools specifically for dental AM applications. The 3D printing pre-processing time was reduced from 30 minutes to 6 minutes, improving printing efficiency and reducing labor costs.

Positioning dental crowns

When performing tooth restorations, the metal crowns manufactured by 3D printing need to be placed on the reduced natural crowns, which require the suitability of the manufactured crowns on the edges of the buccal and lingual sections, axial and occlusal gaps. The difference in different sections should be consistent to ensure accurate edge tightness. At the same time, the precision of the metal inner crown will directly affect the comfort of the porcelain tooth wearer. Therefore, it is necessary to place the crown with the occlusal side facing down during the pretreatment. If the occlusal side is placed up, the support will be built in the crown. The subsequent de-supporting and polishing process will increase the workload of car gold, and It will not be able to guarantee the accuracy of the buccal, lingual, and occlusal gaps, losing its advantages compared with the traditional cast gold-ceramic crowns.

Support generation for the crown

The AM user sets the price based on a single tooth. A larger number of crowns are placed on the platform, which improves processing efficiency and also helps denture processing plants reduce production costs.

In the laser powder bed laser melting process, the construction of the support structure is necessary for several reasons: one is strengthening the support structure and thus the stability of the construction platform; the second is that the support structure takes away excess parts during the construction process. Another reason is that the support structure can prevent parts from warping and reduce the probability of failure during the construction of parts.

The support structure and the generated points are required to be suitable and strong enough to ensure that the printed crown does not deform. The generated support is required to be easy to remove, reducing the work of car gold in post-processing difficulty. Finally, it requires efficient and accurate support generation, and no manual adjustment is required after running the support script to generate support; Fourth, the support structure is required to be small in size and reduce the powder consumption of support printing.
