Two Star Wars-inspired lands are currently under construction at the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort. The first detailed 3D model of Star Wars Land (now officially called Galaxy’s Edge) is on display this weekend at the 2017 D23 Expo. Both Star Wars-inspired lands will transport guests to a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading port and one of the last stops before Wild Space, where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life.
Here, guests will find themselves in the middle of the action at two signature attractions: one that lets guests take the controls of Millennium Falcon on a customized secret mission, and an epic Star Wars adventure that puts guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.
“This is the most ambitious land we’ve built to date,” said Bob Chapek, chairman of Disney’s parks division at the unveiling. Plans for Star Wars lands were announced two years ago and promised “total immersion” that would see guests walk around and interact with random characters.
Disney also confirmed it is working on a fully immersive Star Wars experience for visitors to walk around, eat, drink and sleep in. It’s a hotel — but one that requires its guests wear Star Wars-inspired uniforms and gear. Images of space will be projected outside windows giving a fully immersive feel to the entire building.
Bob Chapek, chairman said that “it’s unlike anything that exists today From the second you arrive, you will become a part of a Star Wars story. You’ll immediately become a citizen of the galaxy and experience all that entails, including dressing up in the proper attire. Once you leave Earth, you will discover a starship alive with characters, stories, and adventures that unfold all around you. It is 100 percent immersive, and the story will touch every single minute of your day, and it will culminate in a unique journey for every person who visits.”
