Dazz3D just launched a Kickstarter campaign for its new Dazz3D L120 Pro 3D printer. Described as a professional-level desktop photopolymerization system, the 3D printer is going to be available to early bird funders for just $899, a very accessible price for what seems like a realistic proposition.
The strategy behind this operation is clear. Dazz3D is a relatively consolidated Shenzen based manufacturer of 3D printers. While quite affordable, the $899 price point is still high enough to enable the company to produce the systems. LCD systems are significantly less expensive to produce that laser SLA or DLP system since they don’t require a laser or a costly projector. These may not be at the level of systems such as Formlabs’ Form 2 or DWS’s XFab, however, it will likely deliver a very good value.
For Dazz3D this operation has several benefits that justify reduced margins: it works as a marketing initiative to promote its brand and its other systems and it helps the company collect funds to introduce the new product. The marketing is clearly well thought out and well organized. In addition, the system has already been fully funded so it will certainly go into production.
While it may be argued that crowdfunding campaigns by established companies may defeat the original purpose of Kickstarter, it is also true that campaigns like this one are very unlikely to disappoint funders: the product will be delivered on time and it will meet promised specifications.
The Dazz3D L120 Pro 3D printer comes equipped with a 2K HD LCD screen, coupled with a Purple 405nm LED lamp to project slices of a 3D model onto the floor of resin container, along with dual-liner slides for enhanced detail. Layer resolution capability is up to 25 microns, XY Resolution is 47 μm, and Z resolution is 10μm. This high level of precision does not require a compromise in terms of speed as the light rate is 3.8 times faster than a normal light-cured resin 3D printer with printing speed clocked at an impressive 36mm/hr.
In addition, the printer addresses another issue common with liquid resin printers: its unique automatic resin system refill system makes this process easy and mess-free. Refilling is as easy as placing a bottle upside down over the resin vat.
“With Dazz3D our goal was to create an affordable, user-friendly printer with professional level quality. Dazz3D has incredible accuracy, great printing speed and excellent model details. On top of that, we added features such as the fan and carbon filter that address health concerns and eliminate fumes, making it a better printer for homes and small spaces.”Jack, CEO & Founder of Dazz3D
Dazz3D also includes a touchscreen monitor and a specialized touch-control software for a more intuitive 3D printing experience. Users just need to import a printing file or add several print files of multiple objects. The Dazz3D software does the rest, adding supports and slicing the file. The printer also supports Wi-Fi, cable, or USB connectivity. Finally, the system comes with 6 types of resins, starting at just $19/500g, which is a fraction of the price of most of the resins on the market. Is it worth a shot?
