Clariant applies ColorWorks ColorForward tech to 3D printing materials

Unique color capabilities shown off in a range of products

Clariant will present new 3D printing materials and solutions for intelligent industrial manufacturing at the upcoming formnext 2018. In particular the company – one of several specialty chemicals giants that will have a significant presence at this year’s edition of the biggest show in the AM world – will display its unique ColorWorks ColorForward capabilities for greenish-blue trend color applied to a range of products.

Clariant’s vast polymer processing knowledge and products such as additives, masterbatches and pigments, are coming together with its dedicated 3D printing team to support product innovators and manufacturers in embracing 3D printing for real-world applications.

Clariant’s featured materials and solutions at formnext 2018 will include Polyamides for small lot production of parts used in applications such as transportation and electrical and electronics. Using flame retardants, glass fibers, and light stabilizers, Clariant’s glass fiber filled flame retardant polyamide 6 3D printer filaments using Exolit® meet industrial requirements that include UL 94 V-0 levels.

Other products will focus on high impact strength materials that also provide electrostatic discharge protection for manufacturing aids. These include PET-G, PC+ABS and polycarbonate based 3D printer filaments combined with conductive additives to provide OEMs with the ability to 3D print jigs and fixtures that are customized, durable, capable and will not harm their manufactured parts due to electrostatic shock.

To highlight the possibilites for 3D printing to meet upcoming color trends, 3D printer filaments in a variety of polymers will be color matched to Clariant ColorWorks ColorForward 2019 greenish-blue trend color “ἀταραξία von has fidanken” (based on a Greek word for calmness or composure) and will have appropriately selected additives to ensure performance.
