Cimetrix Solutions, the AM solutions division of Ontario-based software company Javelin Technologies, is seeking to promote additive manufacturing through education with a new partnership with Toronto’s Humber College. The partnership, which will span five years, aims to provide students with a deep understanding of current and potential industrial applications for 3D printing.

As part of the agreement, Cimetrix will contribute funding of between $10,000 and $50,000 every year to a student who showcases promise in research pertaining to additive manufacturing, advanced manufacturing and automation applications for Industry 4.0 technologies.

Further, Cimetrix will take on the role of lead partner for AM at Humber College’s Advanced Manufacturing Skills Consortium. The consortium was established to create a bridge between the college and local Canadian industry. Cimetrix joins a slew of other Canadian companies who work in collaboration with the school to train students and employees at the new Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation (Barrett CTI).

In addition to this, the AM solutions company will donate $300,000 for additive manufacturing equipment to the college as well as the latest AM technology to be integrated into the Barrett CTI. The company will also participate and even host industry specific forums and work with Humber College in the establishment of outreach activities geared towards STEM education. Finally, the company has also committed to providing recruitment opportunities to Humber students.

“The Barrett CTI is designed to be home to next generation education, complete with new and emerging technologies that cannot be found on other postsecondary campuses,” commented Dr. Chris Whitaker, president and CEO of Humber College. “Partnering with Cimetrix will bring expertise and understanding pertaining to the latest additive manufacturing applications to our students and applied research partners and provide opportunities for collaboration that are key to Humber’s polytechnic model of education.”

James Janeteas, President, Cimetrix, echoed the excitement about the collaboration, saying: “The specialized world of additive manufacturing has globalized, and we need to work together to identify new ways to use additive manufacturing to improve productivity to benefit industry. Cimetrix approaches innovation through collaboration. We look forward to working with all the Barrett CTI partners to create opportunities for students, faculty and other industry leaders to establish a Centre of Excellence in additive manufacturing, automation and learning systems at Humber.”

Cimetrix Solutions merged with Javelin Technologies in May of this year, establishing the joint players as a leading force in 3D design and additive manufacturing within Canada.
