Carpenter Technology launches end-to-end additive business unit
Carpenter Additive will offer full spectrum of AM products and services

Carpenter Technology, a leader in high-performance specialty alloys, today announced the launch of its new Carpenter Additive business unit. The new division will reinforce and build upon Carpenter’s existing position as a powder metals supplier to the additive manufacturing industry.
The newly formed Carpenter Additive will serve the entire additive manufacturing process with its capabilities. The group will address and offer highly engineered, gas atomized metal powders; metal powder lifecycle management solutions; finished component production capabilities; integrated AM and R&D facilities focused on innovation and technical solutions for customers; and industrial-scale AM and post-processing capabilities.
The aim of Carpenter Additive is to offer a comprehensive and end-to-end additive manufacturing solutions to industrial clients.
“From powder production to manufacturing and finishing parts, the full spectrum of our capabilities is what differentiates Carpenter Additive from the rest of the AM industry,” said Chief Executive Officer Tony R. Thene. “We are revolutionizing how customers approach this disruptive technology by offering end-to-end solutions through an array of technical expertise, powder production, parts production and material lifecycle management. Carpenter Additive is working with our customers and driving industry-wide change.”
Carpenter Additive will effectively operate as an integrated additive manufacturing partner, working closely with clients from concept to final production. The group aims to unlock new applications for customers by leveraging its expertise in materials and the AM production process.
It will offer clients access to its range of off-the-shelf metal powders optimized for AM, as well as custom powders and its PowderLife solution for traceability and management. The company will also offer support throughout the additive manufacturing and post-processing steps.
Carpenter has been ramping up its AM-related operations. In October 2018, for instance, the company acquired metal powder and powder lifecycle management solutions leader LPW Technology Ltd. The acquisition, which was worth approximately $81 million, signalled a major shift in leadership within the AM powders industry. Now, with the launch of Carpenter Additive, the company is solidifying its place at the forefront of the industry.
