CADENAS, a German software developer specializing in strategic parts management and parts reduction, has introduced its latest platform, 3Dfind.it, a visual search engine that enables engineers and professionals to find and download millions of CAD and BIM 3D models from manufacturer catalogs around the world.
3Dfind.it is in simplest terms a search engine for 3D models. Unlike Thingiverse and many other 3D model sharing platforms, however, the website is specifically geared to the technical sector. According to CADENAS, engineers and architects spend significant amounts of time searching for information—roughly 27% of their working hours. The goal with 3Dfind.it is to provide a more direct search engine for digital component data, which can reduce search times significantly and increase efficiency.
The new platform by CADENAS already features nearly 900 catalogs in a range of areas, including architecture, engineering, electrical engineering and electronic products. Within the catalogs, a number of 3D model formats are available—in some cases there are over 150 different native and neutral CAD formats—including Autodesk Revit, Nemetschek, ALLPLAN, ArchiCAD, Autodesk Inventor, NX, Solid Edge, PTC Creo Parametric, AutoCAD, CATIA and SOLIDWORKS.
With its new visual search engine, CADENAS aims to streamline and simplify the process for finding 3D models using various intelligent functions. That is, 3Dfind.it is not limited to simple text searches, as it enables users to find 3D models using parametric text search, 3D shape search, 2D sketch search and color search.
Other intelligent functions will soon be added, including feature/topology search, category search (for instance by DIN, ISO or eClass), and class 2.0/reverse search, which will allow users to find a match to an existing component in the database.
Currently, 3Dfind.it is accessible in Beta mode and CADENAS is welcoming companies and professionals to submit their product content to grow the platform even more. CADENAS’ other software offerings include eCATALOGsolutions, PARTsolutions and BIMcatalogs.net.
