Even now, news from Formnext 2018 is still trickling in. 3YOURMIND announced this week that it recruited AM veteran Stefan Ritt as its new Head of Global Marketing at the industry event and now a new partnership between AK Steel International B.V. and Bralco Advanced Materials Pte. Ltd. has been revealed.
Bralco Advanced Materials, a Singapore-based company has signed a collaborative agreement with Netherlands-based AK Steel International, a leader in the production of steel products. The partnership will be focused on developing specialty metal components using additive manufacturing for electromagnetic applications for the industrial equipment, aerospace, electric mobility and healthcare industries.
In the agreement signed at Formnext, both companies laid out guidelines for advancing developments which could benefit and disrupt the targeted markets and applications. Bralco Advanced Materials will leverage its own expertise in producing functional elements using metal additive manufacturing for the partnership.
Based in Singapore, Bralco Advanced Materials is a R&D company specializing in metal AM with advanced materials. The company serves a range of industries, including aerospace, marine offshore oil & gas, precision engineering, automotive, defense and electrical equipment. Notably, Bralco also works closely with local academic institutions, such as the Nanyang Technology University (NTU) and A*Star.
Breda-based AK Steel International, for its part, will offer its know-how and expertise working with iron and specialty steels. Presently, the steel company offers a range of steel grades and materials—including flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steel—which it says are “among the most advanced steelworks products.”
Through the collaboration between Bralco Advanced Materials and AK Steel International, we are hoping to see the development of advanced steel powders for the additive manufacturing industry, which could be used to produce electromagnetic products. We’ll be keeping an eye on future developments.
