BMF Material Technology streamlines client communication, CAD optimization with Onshape platform

BMF Material Technology, a Chinese company specializing in micro- and nanoscale 3D printing, is partnering with Massachusetts-based CAD platform Onshape to offer its clients Onshape’s real-time data management tools. BMF Material Technologies hopes the integration of Onshape’s platform will enable it to speed up communication with its clients in order to realize optimized CAD models in a streamlined and cost efficient manner.

Known for its nanoArch additive manufacturing systems, BMF Material Technology serves clients from a range of industries, as its technology is increasingly sought after for manufacturing small, complex and precision parts like connectors, endoscopes, cardiac stents, tiny springs and more.

“On a daily basis, there are companies all over the world—throughout Asia, Europe and the United States—contacting us for printing small parts with our nanoArch printers,” commented BMF CEO Dr. Xiaoning He. “Before using Onshape, we had to email CAD files back and forth with our customers. But now we can have our team in China and our customers overseas work together on the same model at the same time. It has really improved our efficiency and speed, and Onshape is the only CAD system that can deliver this capability.”

Onshape’s CAD platform is the only software of its kind to combine advanced 3D modeling tools with design data management in a fully cloud-based and secure environment. As part of its security measures, Onshape only stores one master copy of the CAD model in question in the cloud and does not allow for “uncontrolled file copies.” All parties or individuals involved in a given project are given access to the CAD data through various levels of clearance, such as edit, view-only, commenting, etc.

From BMF’s perspective, it will be able to work more closely with its clients, using its own in-house expertise to refine and optimize a client’s CAD model. Because Onshape records each edit made to the model, all project members can go through the history log to see what change was made and by whom.

“The edit history log is a huge advantage for us. It speeds up the learning curve for our customers. We’re in the 3D printing business, not the design business. Onshape will help us teach our clients how to deliver better designs the next time,”

Dr. Xiaoning He, CEO of BMF Material Technology

“We’re excited to partner with BMF, which is radically changing the way manufacturers make ultra-high precision parts,” added David Katzman, Vice President of Strategic Accounts and Business Development for Onshape. “It’s gratifying to not only help BMF achieve their goals, but also help their customers produce better products.

“This partnership demonstrates how Onshape is much more than a modern cloud CAD system—it’s a full data management platform with CAD built in. We look forward to seeing how the BMF team continues to leverage this advantage for their customers.”
