Metal AM company Aurora Labs breaks into African market with Weartech distribution agreement

Aurora Labs, the Australian manufacturer of metal 3D printers and powders, will be expanding its 3D printer availability across 15 African countries through a recent distribution agreement with South African manufacturing supplier Weartech Pty Ltd. The news marks a significant growth for Aurora’s global presence.

Through the agreement, Weartech has been granted exclusive distribution rights for Aurora’s Small Format Printers (SFP) in South Africa and non-exclusive distribution rights for the 14 nations making up the Southern African Development Community. As distributor, Weartech will take on responsibility for the sales, warranty repairs, servicing, and training for Aurora’s S-Titanium Pro 3D printer.

Part of its SFP range, the S-Titanium Pro is a compact metal 3D printer that integrates both DMLS and DMLM print modes. With a price tag of about $50,000, the metal AM system is one of the more affordable ones on the market, and it has the added appeal of being open-source, meaning that users can use the print software and metal powders of their choice. On Aurora’s website, the machine is described as “the perfect introductory tool for materials research, university learning applications, and rapid prototyping.”

African

Commenting on the new African distribution agreement, Aurora Labs’ Managing Director David Budge said: “We welcome the highly credentialed and experienced distributor, Weartech, to our distribution network. This agreement gives us a foothold in the vast Southern African market without having to develop expensive infrastructure in the region.”

“Weartech has established relationships with buyers of 3D printers in Africa and will promote our SFPs to its extensive network,” he continued. “Whilst developing our Large Format Technology, we continue to focus on sales of our Small Format Printer, and with a strong presence in a number of markets, we look forward to updating the market with our progress.”

Presently, Aurora Labs has distributors for its metal AM systems in Europe, South Korea, Russia, India, and more. To penetrate the southern African market effectively, Aurora Labs will provide Weartech with a demonstration printer, enabling it to attract interest from African businesses and research groups.

In addition to pushing its SFP metal AM technology, Aurora Labs is also working on developing and eventually commercializing its Medium and Large Format Printers—both based on its Large Format Technology which is expected to 3D print up to one tonne of metal in 24 hours.

Aurora Labs is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) as A3D.
