Tech startup Gravity Sketch is finally launching its much awaited Gravity Sketch App for iPad, (download it here) which intends to make 3D design accessible for everybody left behind in the 2D world of pen and paper. After a period of incubation, these types of Apps, which are becoming more common on global mobile app stores, could truly open the doors of 3D printing to a wider demographic than ever before by enabling every to create amazing 3D models.
The Gravity Sketch app is perfect for students and teachers who want to illustrate their projects, kids who want to create their own toys and crafters who want to 3D print their creations. This easy-to-use app allows you to turn ideas into 3D objects that can be shared on social media sites and 3D printed at the same time. This video shows you how it works.
“As a team of designers working at the Royal College of Art,” recalls Gravity Sketch cofounder Oluwaseyi Sosanya, “we used to get so frustrated with the existing software packages when it comes to 3D printing anything at all.”
The initial project started out whilst the team was still students, and has subsequently been taken up by the James Dyson foundation, InnovationRCA and Founder.org. Since then, the Gravity Sketch team have been invited to partner with 3D printing industry leader Shapeways, enabling the app users to order their 3D prints directly from within the App, shipped in just 2 days. Furthermore, users can showcase their creations on social media and even share them in 3D with Sketchfab.

Inspired by Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences, Gravity Sketch offers a unique perspective on 3D creation. Learning 3D modeling has never been so easy. Gravity Sketch offers a simple set of tools that enables to create 3D shapes in seconds.
“Gravity Sketch is on a mission to lower the barriers to 3D literacy, the ability to create and manipulate 3D content,” says Gravity Sketch co-founder Pierre Paslier. With the lowering price of 3D printing, and the rise of virtual reality, our team really believes that 3D literacy is the key to the future for science, creativity and entertainment.”
The fact that a new iPad Pro is on the way also comes in handy and we just could not share some of these awesome GIF’s with you from Gravity Sketch’s full optional press kit
