AGILE Space Industries, a specialist in the use of additive manufacturing for space propulsion applications, has acquired Pittsburgh-based 3D printing service provider, Tronix3D. The deal will lead to the creation of a new division called Agile Additive, focused on advancing the state-of-the-art in additive manufacturing for aerospace.

Agile Space Industries is a provider of advanced propulsion solutions for the Department of Defense, NASA, and the aerospace industry. As Agile Additive, we will continue to offer turnkey solutions to deliver on your metal and polymer additive manufacturing needs.

With this milestone and the addition of a new AS9100 and NIST-certified manufacturing facility, Agile Space Industries will be able to deliver lower costs, shorter schedules, and even greater technical assurance for flight hardware deliveries.

The Tronix3D’s team, facility, and customer focus will not change but the team size, capabilities, and innovation efforts will be significantly enhanced.

Tronix 3D will continue to progress in 3D printing by investing in increased manufacturing capacity, novel materials, and innovative processes in order to provide businesses with these new capabilities. The company continues to offers on-demand prototyping through full-scale production with the same quick turnaround and quality assurance previously provided.

Besides MJF technology and SLA, in early 2020 Tronix3D had expanded to offer metal 3D printing capabilities, using Laser Metal Fusion technology from Trumpf to create parts primarily for the aerospace, electronics, military, medical, and dental industries, using pure nickel and other unique alloys.

Beyond printing, Tronix3D provides in-house design expertise and guidance for using their technology. “Many of our customers may not be familiar with designing for our technology, or they may not know about working with unique alloys or those with special characteristics. We offer guidance on all aspects of the process of 3D printing with unique alloys,” said Buck Helfferich, CEO of Tronix3D.

“We also bring a 35-year manufacturing background that gives us a strong ability to serve these markets in an educated way. We’re not just here to print something, we’re really here to support the customer through the entire process,” said Helfferich.

“Not only do we have our own in-house expertise, but we’ve created close technology partnerships with industry-leading companies such as Trumpf,” added Helfferich. “This seamless relationship enables us to share resources to solve customer problems.”

Tronix3D is NIST 800-171 Compliant, ITAR Registered, and Joint Certification Program (JCP) Certified as a supplier to the Department of Defense.
