Additive Industries unveils MetalFABG2 and more at Formnext

New products, services and partnerships for Dutch metal AM company

Dutch company Additive Industries is taking advantage of Formnext 2021 this week to introduce its latest large-frame metal additive manufacturing system, the MetalFABG2 series as well as present other new products, services and partnerships. The new 3D printer doubles the productivity levels of the preceding generation of the MetalFAB portfolio.

New product launches

The MetalFABG2 integrates a range of updates that really take Additive Industries’ technology to another level. As the company explains, the new system series has over 150 updates, including optimized gas flow, optimized heat management, updated process parameters and beam quality measurements. The new series, which offers significantly higher productivity, is available in three versions—Core, Automation and Continuous Production—in order to meet the varying needs of the company’s customers.

As Additive Industries CEO Ian C. Howe told us in an exclusive interview recently, “We are delighted to inform our customers of the launch of the next-generation MetalFAB, MetalFABG2 (2nd Generation), with significantly higher productivity.” The new system can also be fully integrated with Sigma Labs’ PrintRite3D software.

In addition to the new large-frame metal AM platform, Additive Industries has also introduced a new MF Calibrate tool for multi-beam qualification. The tool ensures repeatable production output and streamlines print preparation by automating beam procedures for the MetalFAB1 and MetalFABG2 series. For example, while the manual beam calibration process can take as much as a day, the automated MF Calibrate tool can have the beams set in under an hour.

Finally, Additive Industries has announced the launch of a new service offering, Additive Studios. These services will be offered from the company’s facilities in the Netherlands (Eindhoven), UK (Bristol), US (Los Angeles) and Singapore. Additive Studios will specifically support customers as they design and develop applications for AM, helping to optimize build strategies, process parameters, production and post processing. “Additive Industries will be further expanding its service offering with the launch of Additive Studios, through which it will work with customers to create new designs and applications that leverage the full benefits of its MetalFAB system,” says Howe.

New partnerships

In addition to its new product and service announcements, Additive Industries has also entered into new partnerships with Sigma Labs, Materialise and Makino.

Through a partnership with quality assurance company Sigma Labs, Additive Industries is integrating its PrintRite3D solution (beta) for real-time melt pool monitoring. The quality assurance solution analyzes printed parts without the need for destructive testing or CT scanning, alerting users about any potential errors or discrepancies in the printing process.  MetalFABG2 Formnext Additive Industries

With Materialise, Additive Industries has developed workflow improvements, including a new version of the Build Processor (V2.6). This new software is capable of slicing bigger data and has significantly faster processing speeds. The newly updated Build Processor can also process e-Stage-support and has been optimized for Additive Industries’ Dynamic Laser Assignment Tool.

Last but not least, Additive Industries has signed an agreement with machine equipment manufacturer Makino to jointly develop end-to-end solutions. Makino will leverage its expertise to focus particularly on post-processing needs for Additive Industries’ large-frame metal AM, including the MetalFABG2 series.
