After Italy, Spain has been the hardest-hit country in Europe by the COVID-19 outbreak and the situation in Hospitals and intensive care units is rapidly getting worse. Given the growing demand for medical equipment from healthcare institutions across the country, the digital and non-profit platform has been able to collect orders from 11 hospital centers in Barcelona, Madrid, Castilla La Mancha and Andalusia in less than 24 hours.

“We can deliver bespoke large-scale innovation with fast response speed and corresponding certifications,” said Giuseppe Scionti, founder of Novameat, and Rudy Bianco, co-founder of Mornings4, the Spanish Think Tank that launched the local platform.

“The clinical utility and product functionality of respirators, ICU respirator connectors, and, more recently, the reengineering of 3D print-based respirators have been validated by the 3D Surgical Planning Laboratory at Parc University Hospital Taulí for subsequent production, internally, on-demand, due to the rupture of stock of the usual suppliers, due to an extraordinary situation”, highlighted Ferran Villat, traumatologist, and Director of the 3D Lab at the University Hospital Parc Tauli.

The creation of each new medical material that uses 3D printing technology is the result of a collaboration between companies that are part of the initiative. Some of the companies involved in the project include Spain-based 3D printing leaders and pioneers such Natural machines, 3DZ, Inside Food Consulting, Origenal Story, HP, Mornings 4, Fluidra, Nexeo Plastics, Sicnova, Prodpro Industrial, AsorCAD, BCN3D, Xtelet, Novameat, Makeat, Emes3D, Imes3D, Ames, Intech3D, Mastertec, FICK Company, BASF, FITX, Jano Factory, the CIM center of the Polytechnic University of Barcelona (CIM UPC), among others.
